The CSX Railway System operates rail facilities and lines in Lexington County linking the area to a network that encompasses much of the eastern U.S. CSX lines run north to south in Lexington County, connecting the County with Augusta to the south and Columbia and Charlotte to the north and beyond. CSX lines also connect east-west to the Port of Charleston and west to the Greenville-Spartanburg area and beyond.
Throughout the state, CSX serves more than 300 companies and operates more than 1,300 miles of track and handles more than 190,000 carloads of freight annually. In the Lexington County and Columbia metro area, CSX operates a TDSI Auto Distribution Terminal as well as a CSX Transflo Bulk Transfer Self Service Station.
CSX Corporation, based in Jacksonville, Fla., owns companies providing rail, intermodal and rail-to-truck transload services that are among the nation's leading transportation companies, connecting more than 70 river, ocean and lake ports, as well as more than 200 short line railroads.

Norfolk-Southern also operates rail lines in Lexington County. Several of the County’s industrial sites, parks, and buildings have access to Norfolk-Southern lines. N-S lines operate north to south through Lexington County connecting the area to Augusta and Atlanta to the south and west and the Port of Charleston to the east.
